Notes - Mrs. T. P. Newton, one of the older citizens of this section, died Wednesday morning, June 2nd, at 11:00 o'clock at the family home in East Lampasas. She was born at Westpoint, Lawrence County, Tennessee in 1861 and came to Texas when a child, six years of age. Her early girlhood was spent in Burnet County, and in November 1879, she was married to T. P. Newton and for a number of years they lived near Naruna, and then moved to Lampasas about four or five years ago. She won many friends and admirers among her acquaintances by her kind deeds and assistance to neighbors and friends. She was a member of the Baptist Church and led a true Christian life. The deceased had been in bad health for the past few years and was taken sick Thursday, May 27, while visiting her daughter in Lometa. The family brought her home and everything possible was done for her but she was stricken with paralysis after reaching home and never rallied from the effect.
Besides her husband, the deceased is survived by seven children: Mrs. J. F. Everett of Lampasas; Mrs. H. F. Bodenhamer of Lometa; Mrs. W. E. Zimmerman of Lampasas; Mrs. Wade Hammond of Naruna; Mrs. Henry Sanders of Houston; Marshall Newton of Naruna, and Leonard Newton of Bryan. The surviving sisters are Mrs. M. A. Woodward of Lometa; Mrs. Will Bennett of Brownwood, and Mrs. M. J. Campbell of Lampasas. There are also two brothers, Marshall and Sam McLean of Lometa. All the children were here when death came to relieve her of all pain.
The funeral services were arranged for Thursday evening at 2:30 in the Naruna Cemetery.
